Mary lives in a small house with a red roof. Mermaids live in the lake next to the house and dragons fly in the sky. Mary likes them.

But only Mary can see them. Only Mary reads about them and looks for their passing. Sadly most people hate those stories and tales, and they hate Mary too. No matter how much people hate Mary, though, Mary still likes the mermaids and dragons.

One day a black roof forms next to the red roof. There is another person who can see the mermaids who live in the lake and the dragons who fly in the sky. Mary finally has a village.

Her new neighbor is a girl with memorable red hair. Mary follows her and makes friends with her because Mary is happy to have a neighbor.

It has been a week since Mary followed her neighbor. Mary picks up a hairpin from the road of their village. The hairpin is from her neighbor. Mary has no idea what to do with her hairpin.

Worried, Mary goes out to find her neighbor. But she isn’t anywhere to be found.

Mary goes to her home. The door is open but not so much as it once was. Mary steps forward with the hairpin. The door opens wider, but it is dark inside and only a mirror shows light. It shines brightly, the promise of some new future and some great adventure to be had.

Mary touches it and smiles.
